Okay folks....don't hate the player, hate the game!!! The waiting game that is, we realize it's been awhile but we just can't seem to find the time...you know, living the dream is rough!!!From the airport, we got on a shuttle to our hostel and met the Steve Irwin of shuttle buses...man, did he love his job...we've never gained so much knowledge in 20 mins! lol. Our hostel, Dreamtime Travellers Rest, was quiet and home-y with stained glass windows and worldly decorations that made it very comfortable. Hmmm....what to say about Cairns...it's a city, enjoyed it but really glad to get to 'down under!'. We caught up on sleep from our flights, hit the grocery store and took alot of pride that our supper costed only $1.50/person...that's right...Ichiban, 2 slices of bread (whole wheat of course!! haha) with 2 slices of ham= 3 satisifed backpackers!!! The next day, we had a full day and headed to the Lagoon-a salt water swimming hole in the heart of Cairns...good "city" beach day. I would like to mention Briana bought her 2nd phone of this trip since the 'unlocked' Indo phone was not 'unlocked' and could not be used in Aus!!Next day...3 dives..on the Great Barrier Reef...No big deal!!! Including yacht with sundeck with a full lunch and snacks, coffee & tea, wine accompanied by FANTASTIC cheese and crackers (that Britt just happened to sniff out!!) 3 dives...was great...3rd dive a little murky...still able to see beautiful coral, a moray eel, stingray, baracuda among thousands of other fish and nemos!! Thanks to Papa D...no sharks as we took his advice and painted a seal with a circle around it with a line through it...indicating a non-feeding zone! But the other group that went the opposite way than us did see a shark...jealous! Last night we sat at a pub and tried to follow the "super bowl" of Rugby between Melbourne and Brisbane...very entertaining! A few bumps trying to catch our first Oz experience bus...unable to catch it the day we wanted to. We found out we would have to spend 2 more days in the city..none of us wanted to have anything to do with that and because being as patient as we are....we were on a Greyhound bus 2 hours later to our next location where the Oz Ex bus will gather us!! Mission Beach...present! What can we say, just what we were looking for....reminds us alot of Kenosee Lake in that it is so quiet and quaint...only difference...the slough is now replaced with a ridiculously warm ocean surrounded by islands/mountains with sand that feels like flour. So nice, we figured that we should take the opportunity to finally exfoliate lol! So fresh...and so clean...!!!! Once again, hit a jackpot with our hostel and the grocery store...this budget thing is kind of fun...how low can you go??? Today, we splurged....$2.75 each! We are so inspired by the creativity of our 'flatmates' in our hostels that we decided to ramp it up and introduce....THEME NIGHTS!!!! bom, bom, bom!!!! Let's make Canada proud...we welcome any cheap/easy suggestions!!!! Booked another night so we can have 2 full, glorious beach days...don't worry Mama... the damn Dalziels are huge fans of the 88 SPF sunblock...it's like Casper sittin on the beach!!! No wrinkles here! Anywho, hope you all enjoyed...make sure to write...the more YOU slack, the more we slack! Remember that...only 4 comments on our last blog...that's bush league!!! lol Take care, love you long time!!
p.s. I would also like to note...Mission Beach...Briana... PHONE #3!!!! Where do we want to go....HIGHER!!!! Ring those phones, Ring those phones!!!

Yep, sure do miss you guys - like a hole in the head! haha. but seriously - we really did. Con and I were a bit lost the night you guys left. The next night, Amie took a whole bunch of us from the hostel and partied it up in Kuta (they said they head out regularly there, but i kept hearing: "now that the Canadians are gone..."). FUN night. Lots of hungover bodies littered the Island the next day.
ReplyDeleteThen last night, we all headed to Jimbaran for the seafood dinner. i agree - love the Island. Really great crowd - although it just wasnt the same without the full 10-12 crew (OK, let's not make a habit of that name...)
So landed in Sydney today (suffering severe Post Holiday Depression), got home and first thing i did was hop on the internet to read "the blog". Read it all in one sitting. Really good thing (Really, it is). I'll be sure to follow...
Guess you've figured out by now, we never made it to Nusa Lembongan (no boats were allowed to run back on the Sunday). But we did get McDelivery!! Goal No.1 - achieved.
Love the blog, love the story tellings, love you girls. safe journeys. see you soon!

It was awesome to hear from you ladybirds last night. Sounds like I was having a bit more of a relaxing time - sitting in the hot tub! No biggidty! I didn't have to deal with white, absolutely gorgeous fluffy sand up my butt in like +35 degree weather at 2:30pm, haha! So... I also completed all of Season 5 of Grey's. So good! And your correct....it didn't take too long to achieve! I have the day off today, so I am at the lake. It is getting really nice here at the slough - but mom is kinda a little slave driver and has me working my butt off! Just kidding mom! I have been sitting on the couch and sending you ladybirds a message, just chillax'n. Talk to you all soon! Miss you! Oh and Parker is doing ok :)
ReplyDeleteLove ya!

Hi Girls. Glad that you got to Great Barrier Reef. Also very glad that you didn't see any sharks, although I was worried about the stingrays. Dad told not to mention them, but since you saw one i'm ok. Just make sure that you watch out for them. I lead a very exciting life here- yesterday I ran a red light- thank god no cops around. Actually I was preoccupied thinking about you guys wanting suggestions for your theme nights & eating cheap. The thoughts of getting a ticket put all my ideas on hold & haven't came up with any good ideas since. Nice that you are getting suntans or burns - there is a chance that I may get frostbite. It is supposed to snow here tonight & tomorrow with gale force winds. Maybe that's exaggerating but it is no 34 degrees. Mel came over last night with the grandsons aka. stanley & Renauldo. Took them for a walk. A big dog passed us & of course Stanley barked. In all of the hubbub I stepped on Stanley's toe.. I thought maybe I had hurt him but Mel assures me that he is just fine, Well that is all the news from here. Take care love you. Mom & Dad
ReplyDeleteHey ladies,
ReplyDeleteSo it looks as though may have pick up a straggler along the way. I am booking my tickets this week. Waiting to see from one more person on some prices and then consider me a leech. I was thinking I might not be coming because of some of the prices the first agency I went through. She was trying to charge me $1200 more then some of the other quotes I got....the nerve.
As Lila said Stano is in town and the boys are getting along as usual. Stano is continuing his diet and him and Ren share each others food. Lila did freak out a bit when she stepped on Stano's foot and I told him to milk it so that he can get something out of it. Oh yeah on our walk I think we may have worn out Lila as Renauldo was running the show as usual and was controlling the pace. Lila had Stanley and made the comment I didn't know we were going for a jog. George comes during the day to let the dogs out and he is even spoiling the boys. He cuts up their baby carrots just in case they might choke. So not to worry Stano is in good hands in Regina.
Also, Stanley managed to wake me from the best dream I was having and I considered going back to sleep and ignoring him. Then I thought how would I be able to ignore his morning sounds that he makes when he has to go outside. He is a very stubborn dog and when he has to go to the bathroom he has to go. I think the dream was about shoes or something along those lines.
Melissa and Mikayah are in Florida. Mikayah texted and the only thing she wanted to know is if Stano is in Regina, how long he is staying for.
Today was my last day at my job at Depot and I will sure miss the people there but glad that I am getting out before it slows done even more. I spent my last day in true Melanie fashion and went on many a walkabouts and visiting with people.Tomorrow I start my first day back at my old job and I never thought I would be saying this but looking forward to the shift work only because that will mean, work.
I think you may want to rethink the whole title of your blogs as Lila got very excited and was wanting to call you. So maybe next time you get a chance you could call her. I had to explain it her.
Nothing else too say but I thought you would like to hear how your little guy was doing. I have become a hermit, trying to save money for my trip. haha(I don't even remember when I have travelled this much in one year.)I even broke into the meat that Brit had left in the freezer. The other day I pulled out some of her mystery meat, it could have either been salmon or chicken. You ask how can one mistaken one for the other but there was alot of saran wrap on it. Mystery solved....it was chicken and bonus it wasn't freezer burnt. I will be in touch soon.
I don't have any ideas about eating cheap but I suppose Taya you have some pretty good ideas. We learnt some good ways of saving money from George. I am sure you are making him proud about the money you are saving on your meals.
Mel
